Frank Risk Management’s broker Kathy Walker is known to many Cambridge businesses. Having worked for 15 years in the Waikato insurance industry, Kathy’s developed a loyal following and a reputation for getting things done.
Frank Risk Management was the obvious choice for her following a relocation from Auckland. “Andy and Rene were really getting going when I joined, and it was great to be a part of a firm that was doing things differently and disrupting the industry in the client’s favour”.
Kathy’s client portfolio is diverse, with many referred by existing clients. An area of expertise for her is working for not-for-profits. She says, “understanding the undertakings and risks, faced, often by volunteers, is critical when putting insurance programs in place”. There are many times she has discovered that trustees have given no thought to the personal liability that could result from their community work. Additionally, because they are publicly funded, there is an increased governance responsibility and exposure to scrutiny.
Kathy also says, “the community sector is currently under pressure. The types and number of claims has increased, particularly in regard to employment matters. Financial pressure means difficult decisions are being made, sometimes, with limited resources. It’s the ‘perfect cocktail’. Good claims support is critical”.
