Parental Leave Payment Changes

From 1 July 2016 the maximum rate of paid parental leave for eligible employees and self-employed parents increased from $516 to $527 gross per week. The parental leave payment is a weekly payment for one continuous period of up to 18 weeks.
It is important that employers are aware of this increase so you can correctly advise your employees as to their parental leave entitlements.
The Government has decided against extending paid parental leave to 26 weeks.

Sick Leave

It's that time of the year again when winter bugs can hammer a small business's productivity! It pays to help your staff stay healthy!

Stay home – the most effective way to protect your business against winter absence costs is to encourage sick staff to take time off to prevent them spreading their germs!

Vaccinate against the flu – consider paying for your staff to be vaccinated against the flu to reduce working time lost.

Encourage good health habits – the healthier you are the less likely you are to get sick. Tips include :
•staying hydrated and drink plenty of water
•washing your hands regularly to stop the spread of bugs
•keep fit – what about staff health challenges like fun runs and social sports teams
•eat well – provide your staff with fresh fruit instead of biscuits to snack on
•get outside – Vitamin D is essential to our health so encourage lunchtime walks in the sun – when it is out!
